How To: Steps to Force an MSP License to Call Home to Deactivate

The process to force an MSP license to call home and process the deactivation immediately rather than waiting for the automatic deactivation date.


After deactivating a license in the MSP portal the license will not fully deactivate until the system calls home.  It is possible to force the license to call home and process the deactivation immediately rather than waiting for the automatic deactivation date.
Instructions


Steps for forcing a call home in StorageCraft® ShadowProtect®:

  1. Go into the ShadowProtect install directory usually in the C:\Program Files\StorageCraft\ShadowProtect folder or Program Files (x86) for a 64bit OS and delete the MSPlicense.lic file.
  2. Restart the ShadowProtect service.
  3. Open ShadowProtect and go to the Help > Product Activation menu and activate the software with the license being retired.


Steps for forcing a call home in StorageCraft® ShadowProtect® SPX:

  1. Go to the ShadowProtect SPX data directory and delete License.lic file:
  • Linux: /var/opt/StorageCraft/spx/lib
  • Windows: C:\ProgramData\StorageCraft\SPX
Note: The Program Data folder is usually hidden.
  1. Restart the ShadowProtect SPX service.
  2. Open ShadowProtect SPX and go to Help > Product Activation menu and activate the software with the license being retired.
These steps will force the call home and the MSP portal will reflect the immediate deactivation. If the MSP portal does not reflect the deactivation please open a support case for further assistance.
